The torch runners are picked in a few different ways.One is a lottery system,applicants putting their names forward and hoping to get picked.Some are chosen because of high profile such as former Olympic athletes and community newsmakers.They are told where they will run and at what time.They are given the track suit,mittens & toque but not the Olympic torch.This they may purchase(with the flame portion removed)for around $350.00.Most I would think do purchase the torch they ran with.
