My wife joined a dragon boat racing team for a fun weekend of races at a local lake just south of us,representing our community of Beaumont,Alberta with a team called the Sunstrokes! Each team comprised a total of 22 paddlers. They were joined by a drummer and a steering oarsman. Each heat was composed of 4 teams vying for the fastest time from point A to point B....a little over 100 seconds on the short races and double that for the longer races on the second day. That would be 100 seconds of total excersion.....their arms and core muscles burning by the end of each race, all being cheered on by their supporters as they raced for the finish line. The weather was perfect for both days of the races, the rain holding off again until today, the day after the races.
Here are a number of shots representing the races and side activities that made up the weekend. We all can't wait for next year to do it again!
I apologize for using your gallery as a forum. This is NOT a shameless plug for my photos. I have a gallery dedicated to the breast cancer dragon boat teams. Dragonboating is a theraputic exercise that prevents complications of mastectomy and many doctors now support and recommend it to their patients. I didn't see a survivor team in your photos. I hope someday there will be a team for the LeDuc races.http://www.pbase.com/lynnh/pink
Great gallery!! I enjoyed it very much. It is great exercise and takes a bit of discipline too. I've belonged to a team for 3 years now. Here are a few of my pics...http://www.pbase.com/lynnh/dragon_boat_races
