Situated 22 km. NW of Calgary,Cochrane is a town of around 15,000 people(13,760 in 2006 census). It is rich in history and sits in one of the most picturesque parts of the province. It is foothills terrain nestled up against the Rocky Mountains making for splendid scenery. It's western culture is evident even before you enter the town.A bronze statue of a rider on his horse sits atop a hill just on the outskirts of town. This is ranch land...having several sections of land instead of a 1/4 section is the norm in this area where cattle roam for miles.Cochrane is also known for it's fantastic ice cream.I remember as a youth diverting to Cochrane to experience a cone from MacKay's Ice Cream(established in 1948) and they are more popular than ever today.
Cochrane is likely most famous today for it's cowboy and horse mural mosaic named Trust. http://www.muralmosaic.com/Cochrane.html Come along with me for the day.
