Driving south from Comox along Highway 19 we were suddenly stopped on the road by a longline of stopped traffic. It turned out that a fellow driving a large produce truck left the highway, hit a concrete abuttment and went airborn into the centre median.Right where he hit the air was a ravine. He dropped 30 feet to the concrete bottom of the bridged ravine where his truck was completely demolished. He was airlifted out by helicopter that had landed right on the highway.I didn't hear whether or not he survived, but looking at the truck on the nightly news(you couldn't see any of this driving by)I would be surprised if he did.
An hour later the highway was reopened and we were on our way to begin our visit with relatives.
