While driving to Kingston I checked the "Mill Pond" (the name that appears on Google Maps) a little pond visible from Rt 3A/Tremont St. (opposite the "Draco" dragon statue for those familiar with the area). The location is about 3/4 mile east of the intersection of Rt 3 and 3A(Exit 10).
Often unproductive yet always worth a look, today in addition to some mallards, 4 Gadwall and a Great Blue Heron, the pond yielded a late drake Wood Duck and a hen Hooded Merganser that were inseparable. They swam busiliy about and, interestingly, the merganser never dove. I believe December is late for the Wood Duck and while it was a good way off, I decided to take this rather distant record shot (400mm full zoom cropped)
