There has been a major incursion of crossbills across eastern Massachusetts - the largest in several years. There are very few evergreens with pine cones that would appeal to these birds on Duxbury Beach, and I've not seen crossbills on Duxbury Beach until today when I found this very active yet cooperative group of 15-25 White-winged Crossbills on the Gurnet. I could find no Red Crossbills among them. This series of shots shows two adult males, an immature male, and two females. These were my first ever for Duxbury Beach.
