Uncommon on the Beach (my only other sighting was Sept. 2009). To separate this from a Louisiana Waterthrush, I used the writeup in the National Geographic Complete Birds of North America (p 544).
The most obvious mark is the amount of fine streaking on the throat. Other indicators are the even thickness of the eyestripe, leg color is a dull pink, the bill is not large. This individual's eyestripe is fainly buffy as is its breast and the color runs the length of the stripe, (i.e., not "two-toned" like the Louisiana's)
