This series of 3 photos was taken in fog on the mud flat off the Gurnet at the "Boathole". This breeding/alternate plumage bird shows the distinctive red on bill, streaking on flanks, supraloral stripe, and long wings with dark tips. Also, touches of rufous are clearly visible on the coverts and head - particularly in the 3rd photo.
Unfortuantely I neglected to adjust the auto-exposure so the photos are darker than I'd like. The bird was not at all skittish and let me walk to within 30 feet. The only other birds within 50 yards of it were 2 Willets and a non-breeding Black-bellied Plover.
