This bird was relocated from Logan Airport on 12/4/11 by Norman Smith. At the time it bore a purple head marking and its plumage was not white like this. This bird was recaptured on 3/6 by Norman and confirmed to be the earlier bird - which despite its white coloring is a hatch year male! To quote Norman "See how difficult it is to age them?? [in the field]".
This bird was photographed twice earlier in the year by me (when the purple was visible) and in between was also photographed on Plymouth Beach indicating that at least initially it covered quite a bit or territory! For the last two months, however, it has been quite regular in the Gurnet marsh and been photographed by many. This shot was taken from the car just for doumentation purposes.
