Surf Scoters - Duxbury Beach, MA - Dec. 30, 2011 a

Typically seen at a distance the striking beauty of the male Surf Scoter's facial markings are not always appreciated. This shot was taken looking west from the beach road about 100 yards north of the first crossover; the birds were only about 50 feet from the water's edge.
