The molt on this juvenile perfectly matched the tree it was on. While trying to follow a warbler flitting thought the bushes something caught the corner of my eye and I turned to look at the spot. After staring intently into the area for a minute or more and seeing no movement, I was about to turn back to the other bird when it suddely came to life and started moving around the tree. I had been staring directly at it and not seen it! It was as though the bark of the tree itself had started to move. I had seen and heard two adults awhile earlier and so was alert to their presense - yet I'm convinved that I would never have seen this one if it hadn't decided to move.
