First of season. Found at 9am on snow fence just north of the 3rd crossover roughly 20 yards from the road. The bird was essentially unfazed by the occasional passing vehicle. I took these photos from the car - my movable blind on the Beach - with 400mm full zoom. The first 4 photos including the full setting view were taken between 9:05-9:15. The last two were taken at 11:00am after the bird had been sitting on the same pole for 2 hours in light drizzle.

The third photo is provided to support the assumption that this bird found Duxbury Beach on its own and is not a Logan transplant. Birds periodically relocated from Logan Airport to Duxbury Beach by Mass Audubon's Norman Smith are usually marked on the back/top of the head with a color to help in tracking them. This bird has no such markings.

According to Norman Smith it is sometimes not safe to assert gender or age without the bird in the hand. I think it is probably is okay, however, to assume that this is likely not an adult male because it is so heavily marked. Some sources suggest that the white chest "ascot" is a male feature - so maybe this is a young male. In addition, the absence of natural markings makes this a different individual than those photographed on 11/30 - both of which had a few dark markings on the back of the head.
