Bald Eagle (juv) on Duxbury Beach, MA - June 1, 2009
This bird was being harassed by crows from 9:15-9:30am on the bay side of Duxbury Beach in the area between the 1st crossover and High Pines marsh. These shots show the juvenile plumage and also give a sense of the size relative to the crows (not a small bird itself!). The migrating shorebirds feeding along the shoreline were not at all amused by the presence of the eagle and were flushing frequently and calling often - even when it was a good way away. They do, I suspect, owe the Crows a thank-you for keeping this big raptor occupied!
