Golden Plover (breeding plumage) on Duxbury Beach, MA - 5/5/2009
I have never seen a Golden Plover in full breeding plumage (they are very, very uncommon in Massachusetts in the Spring), so this find on a cold and rainy Cinco de Mayo in the Gurnet Marsh section of Duxbury Beach(MA)was a thrill. The bird was simply stunning - even though the light was abysmal, the bird's golden back seemed to glow - almost as though it were illuminated from within. Unfortunately it was far enough away that the focus on the pictures isn't what I'd like, but I hope these give the viewer a feel for what was, for me, a special sighting.
I relocated the bird on 5/6 and was able to get 3 better shots that I have appended to this gallery.
