First Photos: Odd Herring Gull molt - Duxbury Beach 03-04-2009

This bird was at water's edge on bay side north of High Pines. The strange black spot on the back/side of the standing bird (first pix) was formed by dark feathers in the primary coverts. Addional dark markings show on both wings. Another bird with strange plumage for Duxbury Beach!
