Most people haven't seen a living scallop. Scallops, classified as bivalve mollusks possess many eyes. The eyes can be seen here in rows along the scallop’s mantle edge - they can detect motion, light and dark. Although these eyes may not produce clear images, the scallop can sense danger and close up to protect itself. They are very difficult to spot on a dive, unless open, like this one...
