October 16, 2006 Cades Cove Storm Damage

A severe storm with high winds caused great damage in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Winds of 106mph were recorded at the highest elevations with hurricane force winds at lower elevations. These are but a few of the many trees in Cades Cove felled by the storm, photographed on Oct. 23rd.

omg was this Friday the 20th? we had a real bad wind storm here in PA too, lots of damage. Hope none of the wonderful structures in Cades Cove were lost :(

Oh my, how sad. We here in Buffalo just had a snow storm that brought down many, many trees also. I love Cades Cove and can't wait to visit again. Won't be the same without Jim there though! Cindy.
