Harry Ross

This page is dedicated to my dear friend and sailing partner, Harry Ross, who left us on January 20th, 2005. I shall miss him greatly, as will his beloved wife, Martha, family, and many friends. He was a former Commodore of the Cherokee Lake Sailing Club and served as Editor and Publisher of the club newsletter, "The Light & Variable", publishing its last edition January 15, 2005.

My introduction to the CLSC was when I called Kirk about an article I read in the local paper of a local sailing club. He just told me to come on down to the dock and We'll put you on a boat. I had the good fortune to join "Honey Bear",crewing with Dick and Harry. We had fun and good fortune together in the spring season. He gave without tiring to what he loved and enjoyed, we were the recipients of his thoughtfulness, and he is surly missed.

I had the privilege of sailing with Harry on a Wyss voyage a couple of years ago, I believe out of Annapolis. Harry's knowledge of the waters, the winds and life, in general were just some of the many things he shared with me on that wonderful trip. He has kept me posted on the CLSC's comings & goings through The Light & Variable ever since. He taught me much in that brief time, and I share your sense of loss in his passing. CLSC will not replace him, but will undoubtedly remember him for years to come as an inspiring, rugged leader and friend. May God's constant winds ever be to your stern, Harry! Sincerely, Bill Apple

What a wonderful memorial for your friend, Dick. As usual, your pictures and captions are a treasure for many...even those of us who are visitors here. Peace and comfort to all of you who shared good times with Harry.
