One morning last week, the peace and tranquility of the early morning in Cades Cove was shattered by the whirring blades and loud engine of a helicopter. I was shooting nearby and went to see what the clatter was about. I thought someone might have been injured as I'd seen a couple guys out in the field earlier. I then saw piles of logs out in the field along with some workers. They attached a cable to the logs and lifted off. A lady ranger came by and she told us they were hauling logs and material to the Appalachian Trail to rebuild a shelter. An expensive project with the helo but I guess it beats carrying the logs in by foot or cutting trees on site.
