Jan 25 - Caracara in flight

One of those cases where I wished I had a shorter lens! There was no time to take off the teleconverter, and it only just grabbed focus in time.

I wish I hadn't cut off the tail... Or the wing...

Taken at Viera wetlands on Sunday.

Canon EOS 1D Mark II ,Canon EF 500mm f/4L IS USM
1/2000s f/5.6 at 700.0mm iso320 handheld full exif

other sizes: small medium original auto

Great picture.

Technically I believe it's from the Falcon family, though in appearance and behaviour it is very much vulture-like.

Great catch - spot-on focus. Is that thing a type of vulture?

Very spectacular. Love the sunlight on his body, and on the tip of his wing. Great sparkle in his eye. Feels like you're flying next to him. :)

I kind of like the crop on it. Seems to strengthen the image. Great action shot!

Even though the tail and wing are cut off it's a fantastic catch. i think it adds a little rather than takes from it!
