(The gondolier's hat is woven using straw with coloured bands on both the crown and brim.
The colour of the bands matches the inside of the gondola in the summer, and is black like the felze (gondola canopy) in the winter.
Apart from being very iconic it also offers some form of protection from sun and rain.)
