Prairie flowers

George Twp., Harper Co., Oklahoma

A photograph of the United States Department of Agriculture's Southern Plains Experimental Range taken in the late afternoon. Included among the plants in the photograph are sand lillies, sunflowers, sand sage and bluestem.

It is no longer possible to take this photo of this location. When I returned the following summer, Oklahoma Gas & Electric had built a wind farm along the northern boundary of the USDA property. Now the view is cluttered with wind powered generators. See http://www.pbase.com/richarda/image/87064156.

Thank you for such wonderful photos. They've helped me to identify quite a few wildflowers that we've seen in the fields of Oklahoma.
