Northern Mockingbird

Oakdale Twp., Noble Co., Okla.

The Northern Mockingbird (Mimus polyglottos) is a year-round resident. The bird's name comes from its ability to mimic the calls of other birds. Very protective of its territory, I've observed Mockingbirds make striking attacks on unsuspecting domestic cats. Occasionally, such tactics end in the attacking birds demise.
