It all started with a birthday gift. The classic plastic department store telescope. It was not long before it was returned for something better, this triggered a childhood dream of taking pictures of the Heavens. Merging two passions, astronomy and photography. My current job brings me to different locations around the world. This sounds good, but it can be quite demanding, frequently changing locations, and equipment configurations. I started with Meade 8" LX90 in Athens Greece. It was a great learning tool, I quickly learnt the differences between ALT/AZ and Equatorial Mounts. I then moved to Stockholm, Sweden. I sold the LX90, and purchased the TEC APO 140 on a Losmandy G11 mount. For me this was a huge learning curve (how the heck does an Equatorial Mount work?), I also built a sliding roof garden shed/Observatory. This worked well until the neighbour decided to place a bright lamp beside his living room window, (a Swedish tradition). My Next move was to Kandahar Afghanistan, I could only travel light, so I purchased the Astrotrac. I am sure it is a great device, but I could never get it to work correctly. Next on to Budapest, Hungary. I then purchased a used Paramount ME with the Rob Miller Tri36H tripod. This is a wonderful combination, and yet another learning curve! I also purchased the Orion Optics AG 14. The AG14 needs time and patience to setup correctly. I got part way into the process, when my employer moved me again. This time to Kabul, Afghanistan. For this I used a Takahashi EM200, with a Williams Optics 110 APO and a FLI ML16803. This was a very challenging environment, even using the 5nm Ha filter there were light gradients. I am currently in Tel Aviv Israel where I hope to spend time in the Negev Desert taking some great shots.
