The Mount Evans Scenic Byway is the highest paved road in North America. Along the 14 mile road from Echo Lake to the summit parking lot at 14,130 ft you are guaranteed to see lots of wildlife. The mountain goats are not native to Colorado but were introduced in the 50's and 60's and have since thrived. It is estimated that there are 90-100 goats in the Mount Evans area. I believe there are more than that. On this day we saw 44 goats within 500 feet of the road. In addition to goats you will likely see Marmots, Pikas, and possible Big Horn Sheep and Elk. It is more rare to see coyotes and white-tailed ptarmigan. All photos in this gallery were shot during a 2 hour window on a day in July. You can see more photos from other trips here.
This is a wonderful gallery. I really enjoyed seeing the antics and I like your captions for the photos too. Great compositions and details. Happy to vote.
