NOTICE: ROBERT SEARL, SR PASSED AWAY ON SEPTEMBER 21, 2017, ONE MONTH SHORT OF HIS 100TH BIRTHDAY. HE MAINTAINED THIS WEBSITE AND WAS IN EXCELLENT HEALTH UNTIL WITHOUT WARNING HE SUFFERED A MASSIVE CEREBRAL HEMORRHAGE WHICH WAS FATAL.

IN HIS MEMORY AND IN THE HONOR OF THOSE WHO ALSO SERVED IN WORLD WAR II, I WILL BE KEEPING THIS WEBSITE ALIVE FOR THE FORESEEABLE FUTURE. --Robert Searl, Jr., sayhibob@gmail.com

So sorry to hear of you dad’s passing. My dad and him were friends and I started to google some of the guys from the 56th signal battalion and found this notice. Miss my dad so much as I am sure you do yours. Thanks for keeping the web site alive!!!

Hello Bob Jr,
This may seem to be late, yet I have had some personal problems that have kept me away from visiting your father's site. It is remarkable how he put this together and told his story. I will miss him, yet am glad you are keeping the candle burning.

Rest in Peace and May God Bless Robert Searl Sr. I have followed this website on occasion since my father served in Army Aviation Engineers in WWII and also crossed over to England at the same time on SS Argentina. Mr. Guadalupe Rea Jr. passed on June 18 just two weeks shy of his 104th birthday.

sorry to learn of your DAD'S Death.Thank you for keeping this 56th signal battalion site up. The man (in the middle) between MARLENA DIETRICH and another soldier in a truck -borne comm center was misidentified as another soldier, who your dad identified as another soldier in a photo of a signal corps lineman with (as I remember) THE FIRST NAME of LEE>" I think your dad though the men in the Marlena Dietrch were from "A" company, but my dad (T/4 Julian Reed Strother ,jr 1922-1991) was in "C" but the photo in the web site is a dead ringer for my DAD'S h.s. teenage photos. My Dad did tell me a long time ago that he'd met Dietrich, but spoke very sparingly about the war- except for the BATTLE OF THE BULGE, and how pretty the girls were in Czeckoslovakia. He (in a very objective school teacher way) tell us about the CONcwntration camps the germans had, but it wasn't util my DAD'S DEATH IN JUNE 1991 - when I telephoned my Dad's old Army buddy FROM THE 56TH -that Mr. Rogers Fannin told me of the fact that they entered Buchenwald.
