The German forces confiscated all of the church bells from the churches
in the surrounding areas for melt-down for military use. The bells were
stored in the courtyardyard of a military camp called Camp Rommell in
Bastogne, France. When our wire team overran the Camp and the enemy
retreated, the priests began to look for their confiscated bells,
This one was identified and happy to be found intact and was loaded
on a horsecart ready to go back to the church. We assisted in the loading
of this bell which was appreciated by the clergyman in the photo.
