Citizen soldier - Private - 56th Signal Battalion - First Corps. Drafted May 1941
to serve one year in the pre-war military service at Fort Jackson, South Carolina.
In December 1941, Pearl Harbor, changed this to eventual direct participation in the Initial Assault on the Normandy coast of France with the First US Army on June 6, 1944, Omaha Beach,
to the end of hostilities in May of 1945 deep into Europe at Pilsen, Czechoslovakia. A survivor of a total of 335 consecutive days in combat across Europe.
