Gallery #11 - Comrades of the 56th Signal Battalion in WWII - Europe

Snapshot photos of those that served with the 56th Signal Battalion which was re-activated in January 1941, prior to the December attack on Pearl Harbor. Most were citizen Selective Service people drafted into the Army Military Forces during May of 1941 for an obligation period of one year. Training began in Fort Jackson, South Carolina and after the declaration of War, the entire unit was dispatched to Europe in July 1942. After two years of assignment in the United Kingdom the unit was selected to furnish combat communications during the Neptune Normandy Campaign and beyond. As part of the First Army, Fifth Coorps, the Battalion participated in the Initial DDay Assault upon Omaha Beach, Normandy, France on June 6,1944 and across Europe to Pilsen, Czechoslovakia in May of 1945.....Bob Searl - Editor
