- Digital Darkroom -

In this sub-gallery you find some examples of the postprocessing I did. Each single shot in the "Landscapes of Tuscany" gallery is postprocessed, following thereby a more or less standardized workflow:
- checking if the horizon is really horizontal
- adjustment of levels in order to get a more contrasty image
- working with dodge and burn tools to strengthen whats already there in terms of light and shadows
- if necessary adding some color saturation
- if necessary do some cropping in order to strengthen the composition
- finally: resizing, sharpening and framing

In the left column you see the images coming directly out of the camera, only resized, but no cropping, sharpenning or anything else applied. For these pics I used the basic jpeg files, all postprocessing was done with the NEF files - that may explain some of the differences in image quality, the rest is due to postprocessing actions.

I want to add that I am not a postprocessing specialist in the sense of knowing a lot of tricks and secrets all implemented in the various picture manipulation tools. My prime interest is to know how to perform digitally (and thereby saving my time and nerves) what I previously did in the "analogue" darkroom: i.e. taking care on contrasts, curves and - most of all - doing some dodging and burning with selfmade masks in order to work out the distribution of light and shadows.
