This Sharp-shinned Hawk was along a trail in the Elkhorn Slough National Estuarine Research Reserve near Elkhorn Slough in Watsonville, California. It was very agitated and flying from side-to-side of a large, mostly dead pine tree. It appeared to be after one of the small birds that were hiding in a vine that was growing up the trunk of the tree. Unfortunately for the hawk, the birds escaped to better cover when the hawk was on the far side of the tree.
