Meadowlarks in The Snow

These two Western Meadowlarks were photographed in Prescott, Arizona on March 19,2005 after a brief snowfall. The warm, brilliant colors of the Meadowlarks contrasted nicely with the snow and pine trees. Although meadowlarks are most frequently seen on or near the ground, foraging in the fields for grain, seeds and insects, they often move to a shrub or tree when they sing. In this case, the bird at the top of the tree did all the singing. The Sun was low in the sky at the end of the day and the temperture was dropping. The striking visual impact of these colorful birds against the snow and the beautiful song of the meadowlark left me a very pleasant memory.
