Townsend's Warbler (9X)
(Setophaga townsendi)

Pacific Grove, Ca

This series of photos were taken across from The Fishwife Restaurant in Pacific Grove, Ca. As I was eating lunch with my wife, brother and sister-in-law,
I noticed 8-10 warbler-size birds exhibiting flycatcher behavior directly across the street. Excusing myself, I got my camera and walked over to photograph
the activity. There had clearly been a termite hatch at the edge of the forested area and the birds were feeding voraciously on the winged insects as they emerged,
catching some in the air and some on the ground. The majority of the birds were Townsend's but there were also a couple of Yellow-rumped Warblers that joined
in the feast. The Townsend's is such a beautiful bird and the activity was so unusual, it was difficult to stop shooting; hence the over-abundance of photos.

This male Townsend's had a mouthful of termites but was still on the hunt.

This is a female Townsend's, equally beautiful when compared to the male although with less vivid colors.

This photo clearly shows the termite that has just been captured.
