Today was Day 9 on the tour and began this morning at 9:15 AM with a local guide taking us around important landmarks and explaining the history behind them. I took a few quick notes and here they are.
1. Bath is one of only two World Heritage Sites that refer to the entire city, Venice, Italy is the other.
2. Beau Nash's ability to persuade sedan chair businesses to set reasonable rates provided the model later used by taxis.
3. Bath was bombed in 1942 as Hitler's response to RAF bombs that damaged cultural sites in Germany. Over 700 people were killed with major damage to buildings. One of those buildings damaged was the hotel where we're staying, The Francis Hotel.
4. There are 7 rivers in England named Avon. Avon is a Welsh word meaning "river" so Avon River means River River.
