On July 12, Animal Control picked up a stray black cat and headed back to the shelter. Upon arrival, four stowaways were discovered in the crate. Another arrived a few hours later. All are seemingly healthy. Momma cat is just a child herself. She is probably no more than 9-11 months old. She is extremely friendly, especially for a cat that may have been on her own for a while. I can't quite get the lighting right. None of the kittens, nor their mother are brown. Miss Ellie is a beautiful sleek black cat and three of the kittens are dark gray, almost black.
August 16---The kittens are 5 weeks old today. They are running amuck in their room. Three are using the litter box with some consistency, and four are supplementing their mother's food supply with canned food.
August 23---Six weeks of life today! The kittens are growing quickly, in fact, too quickly for their mother to keep them properly nourished. Since all kittens are now eating a combination of canned and dry food, they have been separated from their mama. On September 4th, Miss Ellie will be spayed and with a week's recovery time, will be ready for her new home.
September 5---There are 2 reasons to celebrate today. Miss Ellie came through the spaying process with flying colors. She will be "enjoying" cage rest for a couple of days and then she will get back to her normal routine. The 2nd reason for celebration is that 2 of the kittens went to their new home. Sue Ellen and Dallas have moved on to a wonderful new life. Two out, four still waiting.
December 2012---Jock, Bobby, and JR have found their new forever homes. Bobby and JR went to one family, while Jock went out by himself. Jock now has an older sister which he is planning to whip into better physical shape.
April 17, 2013---Miss Ellie has been adopted! This evening she went to live with her new loving family, where she will enjoy the company of two other four-legged family members and three humans.
