My friend Gayle P. asked me to help her clean out and replace nesting material in kestrel/screech owl nest boxes she had in a few places in Boone County, 2 of which were on my land. When she opened one of the boxes she found this red screech owl. Glad SHE remembered to bring a camera! Though I have to say I'm not sure how comfortable I would have been with my camera, one arm wrapped around a utility pole, and snapping a photo 15ft. off the ground. My only disappointment was that this bird was NOT in one of MY nesting boxes. BTW, we left this nesting box as we found it, not wanting to disturb the resident.
