I was at Amboseli in 1971 in the middle of a severe drought. There was no greenery to be found anywhere except along river banks. The termites were in control and had eaten almost everything. Poaching of elephant tusks was (and is) a problem and there were several carcasses of slain elephants lying about with their tusks removed ... see my photo athttp://www.pbase.com/tombriggs/image/86165975
