Great choice of subject, Scott, not the easiest to nail down. Because of the limited contrast of the supporting leaves and background earth, I would Photoshop this background material down to a darker tone and allow for more contrast to lift & highlight the flower area for a more 3D effect. I would also try and shift the flowers (through crop choices) so that they don't sit quite as centrally in an almost square format. My leaning would be towards a landscape rather than a portrait cropping.
