Although the image conveys a sense of scale, the wide-angle view tends to reduce impact. A tighter crop would be more effective, using the boat’s bow line from the bottom
left corner and positioning the turret gun in that area. Its leading line would guide the viewer through the image toward the larger ship and the group on the line.
The tall mast and the sailor raising the flags would then sit near the upper-right intersecting third, strengthening the composition. The image also has a
strong blue cast and would benefit from colour correction. Increasing the exposure and lifting the shadows would further enhance its overall impact.
