Judges Comments


The mid-tones of the subject and background are too similar, causing the subject to blend into the frame. Increasing contrast and darkening the background
would help the subject stand out more clearly. Some areas are slightly soft, which reduces overall definition. At 100% magnification, noticeable editing
artefacts are visible around the subject’s front legs and in the lower-right quarter of the image. Compositionally, the leaf and the subject’s body
create a strong diagonal line. Rotating the frame so the leaf enters from the bottom left would strengthen the composition further, with one
diagonal running from bottom left to top right and the wings forming another from top left to bottom right. The catchlights in the eyes add interest.
