The subdued colour palette reinforces the feeling of the turbulence of the oncoming storm - and how it robs the landscape of light.
At the same time the soft ,lighting allows the details of the landscape to stand out with the yellow vegetation providing a highlight interest.
The image is well balanced with the high point on the right hand side interacting nicely with the cloud shape and source of light.
