Taking the portrait with some of the sitter’s environment showing helps very much with the characterisation and is a good ploy.
But the fill light is a bit too overdone and tends to flatten the facial features and lessen the masculine feel. Having the sitter
looking away and capturing the seemingly troubled expression as you have is a bit out of touch with the high light level used.
