Birds of Shetland

Shetland is a birdwatcher's paradise for its great seabird colonies .These photos were done from 1July to 21July 2007 during our visit to some of the best sites for birdwatching on Mainland (Sumburgh Head), on the island of Noss,on Mousa with over 5000 breeding Storm Petrels and on the island Unst (Nature Reserve Hermaness)with its high cliffs and over 100000 breeding seabirds and 800pairs of great Skuas.
Most shots were taken with the Canon 20D & Canon 400mm DO IS lens.Some photos are created by my husband Hans-Joachim(Jochen) with my former equipment ,the Canon 300D& Canon 100-400mmIS lens.He is comfortable with the old camera but I think for bird photography he is just handicapped with it.Anyhow he has captured some very nice shots .

Wonderful gallery, Reinhild. You captured so many terrific behavior shots of the birds. I particularly enjoy the many Puffin shots, especially the in-flight one. Very well taken, exposed and composed images. Voted!
