This is the first record of an adult Sabine's Gull in my area and only the 5th record in all of Ontario. All previous records were of juveniles. These birds nest in the high arctic and winter on the coast of Africa and California. They tend to migrate straight from the high arctic to the coast so seeing them here inland is very rare. This gull was were for a week. It mostly kept far out in the river, so far scopes were necessary to get a decent view, but one day an emergence of insects along the shoreline brought the gull close.
