Question Mark (Polygonia interrogationis)

I had to get a bit creative for this shot. This Question Mark was perched fairly high on one of the hedges in my backyard and seeing that it was content to stay there as I moved about beneath I went to get a chair so I could get a shot at its level. The chair didn’t get me high enough, so I went looking for my ladder. It took me a couple of minutes to find it because it was in the basement rather than the garage where it is normally stored. I was sure the butterfly would be gone by the time I got out with the ladder, but it was still there and stayed there as I set up the ladder next to the hedge and climbed up 6 feet to get this shot!

It was well worth all that effort because this is stunning. You even caught that gorgeous purple banding that isn't always seen. VV
