I went out this morning looking to photograph Bohemian Waxwings and I was not disappointed! There were TONS of them devouring buckthorn berries in the woods this morning. I'd say there were around 250+ of them in the area. Flocks this size are not uncommon around here in the winter and have been seen almost daily in this particular area. Getting photos can be tricky, though, because the birds are often deep among impossibly thick berry bushes, or, when not feeding, perch at the top of the tallest trees. Today many of them were out in the open in shorter bushes along the forest edge. There was little choice for the birds as most of the berry bushes elsewhere in the woods had been picked bare or were in the process of being picked bare.
