Yesterday an unusual fall weather pattern blew a flock of 14 Cattle Egrets into a field not too far from where I live. These birds are rare here and flocks this size are very rare. When I learned about the Cattle Egrets I wondered if that same weather pattern had brought any unusual songbirds to the forests, so this morning I went out for a slow walk about the forest to see what was around. Nothing unusual among the regular characters today. But the regular characters, like this Red-breasted Nuthatch and the dozen or so Red Squirrels I encountered, each of whom were tossed a big shelled peanut, offered plenty of excitement. A walk among them is never a disappointment!
