Floppy is one of my backyard regulars. Floppy has had some misfortune in his life. It appears that floppy was hit by a car at some point because his tail and back legs are mangled up. He also has some chunks missing from his fur and a growth on one of his ears that is causing it to "flop" over. Floppy first came around earlier this summer and back then I didn't think he was going to live long. He was in very bad shape. But he has since healed from whatever misfortune came his way and he now walks and climbs fine and eats well. He is also the only squirrel in history here that has figured out how to chew a hole in the screen door and get inside to the motherload of peanuts.
This was the first time Floppy has ever sat on the railing of my back deck like this and offered a pose. Normally he sticks to the ground. I raced to get my camera, opened the door, fully expecting that the sound of the door opening would encourage Floppy to come down to the door, but he remained there on the railing and allowed me to get this photo, which is what I wanted.
UPDATE: Floppy's ear eventually healed, but he disappeared in late 2010 and was not seen again.
