This fern was found in my neighborhood forest, a 45 acre patch of hemlocks, white pines, sugar maple, and beech. Being very close to the forest, I visit often and over the years have probed every corner of the forest. Yet in spite of my frequent visits I still find new things all the time and feel like there is a lot more to be discovered. This fern was a new species for the forest, found a few weeks ago and finally photographed now (because the mosquitoes were minimal today). I walked all around the area where I took this photo and found fewer than 10 fronds.
