I was walking through a sedge meadow when I spotted this patch of Purple Loosestrife along the edge of a marsh. I thought I might find some butterflies using the plant as a nectar source (there were few other blooming plants around except Queen Anne's Lace, which butterflies don't seem to care for) and there I found a Black Swallowtail and Monarch. I also saw a Red Admiral and two Delaware Skippers (this species seems to be very common this year). I didn't see a single fritillary species while I was out this morning or any hairstreaks. This sedge meadow was the only spot I saw any butterflies, actually. None of the Joe-Pye Weed plants growing on another trail in the area attracted a single butterfly!
